Fiscal Year Accomplishments

The City of Slidell is enjoying the success and growth of its projects and events, which effectively enhance the beauty and enjoyment of the City for citizens and visitors alike. Olde Towne is quaint and scenic, with newly refurbished bricked sidewalks, old-fashioned streetlights, and beautiful parks. It provides a fitting backdrop for “brown bag” concerts, antique fairs, Christmas Under the Stars, and Slidell’s own Heritage Festival, to name a few.

  • Fiscal 2006-07 Accomplishments:
  • The Slidell City Council was deeply saddened by the death of Councilwoman-at-Large Pearl Williams. Her involvement in beautification efforts, litter prevention, and community improvement made a huge difference in our community over the past 20 years. Ms. Pearl was Chairwoman of the Slidell Beautification Committee and on the Board of Directors for Keep Slidell Beautiful. Slidell is a much cleaner, prettier place because of Ms. Pearl.
  • Pearl Williams was honored by the United Way with the "Volunteer of the Year" award in April 2007.
  • Keep Slidell Beautiful received a $10,000 Cigarette Litter Prevention Grant from Keep Louisiana Beautiful, Inc. Proceeds from this grant will be used for educational materials, signage, and cigarette receptacles.
  • Keep Slidell Beautiful received a $15,000 Community Grant from keep Louisiana Beautiful, Inc. Proceeds will be used to purchase 500 vinyl garbage cans to line the parade route, cleanup equipment, educational and promotional items.
  • Approved the leasing of the DISA building on Gause Blvd. to Textron.
  • Established the Keep Slidell Beautiful organization and its affiliation with Keep America Beautiful.
  • Adopted a new dumpster ordinance providing that all commercial dumpsters be enclosed by solid wood fencing.
  • Provided three school resource officers for three high schools in Slidell.
  • Adopted an ordinance requiring all privately-owned travel trailers and recreational vehicles be registered with the City.

The City of Slidell is growing rapidly, and the goal of the City is to provide quality, proactive, and efficient City government and services.
